About the Program
This is your program -- we will be working together so that you can set goals that are specific to your own leadership opportunities, challenges, and growth.
That said, we have designed this learning and development experience to support you in achieving the objectives below. For maximum effectiveness, each objective or goal needs to be clarified with actionable, measurable practices. We've provided one or two examples, but you may choose to define other action steps and outcomes.
- Learn from and with other senior leaders about their most effective leadership strategies.
- Example: Meet and gain actionable insights from at least 3 other leaders in other services, ranks, or roles.
- Identify personal leadership strengths, values, and key strategies to guide your ongoing leadership practice.
- Example: Identify 1 – 2 strategies from the fall residency that you will practice and reflect upon at your home police service.
- Develop and practice leadership and coaching skills to effectively address the challenges of your team.
- Example: Develop and implement an action plan to address at least 1 of your team's top challenges by the end of the program.
- Practice and gain proficiency with the coaching approach to leadership.
- Example: Practice and gain proficiency in one or more of the skill areas: Levels of listening, effective questioning, or leadership presence.
- Use coaching questions in 40% of interactions
- Listen at a level 2 or 3 in 60 % of interactions
Objective 5: Build on existing and new relationships to further cross-service networks and community.
- Example: Reach out to at least 2 new colleagues after the residency to begin developing a support network
- Example: At least once a month after the program ends, share leadership experiences and/or resources with someone in your Leading Women Cohort 1 community to support ongoing learning and sustain relationships
Based on HCC's extensive coaching experience in this sector and consultation with women in law enforcement, this four-month leadership development experience has been designed to align with current police initiatives and to support your specific leadership challenges.
- Learn from other senior leaders what is working in their services to meet the 30x30 Challenge
- Identify personal leadership vision, values, and statements to guide your ongoing leadership practice
